Highest Paid Footballers in the World for 2009-2010

Here is us providing you with one of mans greatest desires – to know how big is the paycheck of someone else, especially if he’s a big star and much more successful than us, so we can complain how much more we deserve it than them – the top 14 highest paid soccer players in the world –

Numbers 9-14, 9.75 Million Dollars

Steven Gerrard

Not the greatest season so far in 2009-2010 for Stevie G, scoring 5 league goals so far, with the last one coming in December. Liverpool’s disappointing form this season is directly related with his sub-par performances, and an improved spring campaign from him could mean Champions League next season.

Ronaldinho

Ronaldinho

Unlike Gerrard, Ronaldinho had his fortunes turn for the good this season after two very tough years for the Brazilian phenom who not too long ago was the undisputed best in the world. He has scored 9 for AC Milan this season and if he keeps enjoying the game like he seems to be this year, we can expect some great things from the rebuilding team in the coming years.

Xavi

Xavi

Not as productive statistically like last year (2 goals, 6 assists so far), but he’s still the heart of the best side in Spain and probably Europe. Lets not forget he has a chance to lead Spain to it’s first World Cup trophy in a few months in South Africa.

Thierry Henry

Thierry Henry

After sort of a comeback season in Barca’s record breaking 2008-2009, Henry is finally playing his age, scoring only 2 goals in 13 league matches this season for Barcelona. Somehow, he became the soccer world’s biggest villain for a while after hand-balling before scoring the goal that put France in the World Cup against Ireland.

Frank Lampard

Frank Lampard

The general opinion is that Lampard is having a so-so season compared to his usual high standards. A look at the stat sheet shows Lampard is with 10 goals and 10 assists this season, not too shabby. More importantly, Chelsea are still top of the table despite some erratic form of late, but his biggest goals for this season are probably winning the Champions League and the World Cup with England. Hey, everyone has a right to dream.

John Terry

John Terry

Another Chelsea player who is playing well this season, but is having a rough time off the pitch, with his whole affair with Wayne Bridge’s girl a while back exposed. Wayne Bridge even got permission not to shake his hand in the upcoming Chelsea vs Man City match.

Number 8 – Carlos Tevez, 10.5 Million Dollars

Carlos Tevez

Speaking of Manchester City, here is their first player on this list, Carlitos Tevez who has been fantastic for the lesser Manchester side after a woeful start to the season. He has already scored 13 goals this season, one shy of his best in the premiership (14, 2007-2008).

Numbers 6-7, 11.1 Million Dollars

Karim Benzema

Karim Benzema

It’s sometimes hard standing out on such a star studded side, but despite pushing Raul to the bench and maybe across the Atlantic, Benzema is slightly disappointing and suffering from Higuain’s fantastic season.

Emmanuel Adebayor

Emmanuel Adebayor

Adebayor start out firing on all cylinders for his new club, but after his suspension due to his disgusting actions against Van Persie, it seemed that he and City lost the momentum. After the tragedy in Angola and some time off, it seems Adebayor is coming back to his early-season-self, scoring three goals in City’s last four matches.

Number 5 – Kaka, 13.05 Million Dollars

Kaka

The Brazilian Galactico is probably disappointing many fans with his stat line of 4 goals and 5 assists in 18 matches this season, but the way Real play, with Ronaldo on your side, the numbers are obviously going to be lower than in the past. Still, it seems that Real’s style isn’t exactly best suited for Kaka to show his full arsenal of abilities. A big test will be coming in 10 days when Lyon arrive at Madrid for the second leg of their Champions League clash after a 1-0 win in France, with Kaka needing to prove he can lead this team even when Ronaldo isn’t himself. Oh, and he needs to win some minor trophy for a football obsessed nation this summer, no biggie.

Number 3-4, 13.65 Million Dollars

Samuel Eto’o

Samuel Eto'o

He hasn’t exactly been scoring in the numbers we’re used to from the Cameroon striker, but has 8 so far and Inter are leading the Serie A comfortably, so generally, life is good for Eto’o. Lets see how good they’ll be after the dust from the clash with Chelsea settles.
Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi

The tiny Argentinian continues to play like the best in the world, maybe because he is. 16 Goals and 8 assists in 19 league matches for the Catalan side while Maradona wonders why he isn’t playing like that when he wears the Argentina shirt.

Number 2 – Zlatan Ibrahimovic, 15.6 Million Dollars

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Still Barcelona. Zlatan has cooled down since the calender turned to 2010, but Barcelona are winning (almost all the time) and Zlatan, scoring or not, is one of the best players in the world.

Number 1 – Cristiano Ronaldo, 16.95 Million Dollars

Cristiano Ronaldo

The most expensive player in history deserves to be the highest paid player in the game. With 11 goals in 13 league matches, the only thing that seems to stop one of the most hated athletes in the world are the occasional injuries and the occasional suspension for breaking an opponents nose.

  1. Messi is N.1 on the most payed players

He is the most payed player of all time no one has been payed that 30mill euros in history

    • That’s maybe including money coming from endorsment, commercials and stuff… this list is only about the salaries

  2. where the hack is Cesc Fabregas.?? Wenger shame on you he deserves to be in the top ten.. you might aswell leave for for Barca Cesc you definitely deserve more!!!

  3. this is totally worng way wrong here is the real list

    10.)Eto
    9.)Lampard
    8.)Ibrahimovic
    7.)Tevez
    6.)Ronaldinho
    5.)Henry
    4.)Kaka
    3.)Cristiano Ronaldo
    2.)Beckham
    1.)Messi

  4. Wait for Rooney’s next contract.he will be in top-5.Well Kaka must be paid more than Samuel e’tto.

  5. Some of the comments here clearly show you are either a America soccer wannbe or you know nothing about socer. Beckham top ten this is a guy with no skill only a bender and it only works sometimes apart from that he cannot put the ball on the ground and take on players. you see how messi and teves play plus the spanish team and Argentinians. that is what you call soccer.

  6. gee…..let me guess you are probably an arrogant south american…most likely argentinian.
first of all david beckham is a man with a talent that no other player in history has ever duplicated. he is a player who’s unique skill has allowed him to play for manchester united. real madrid, and afforded him to be targeted by the l.a. galaxy to bring relevance to the entire sport in the u.s.a….oh and have you forgotten that the top teams in the world, real madrid, ac milan, manchester united are so amazed by his unique skill he is stil a consistent loan target …for major salary offers…even at age 35.
teves is young and tenacious….but you wouldnt want him sending crosses in , taking corners and free kicks.
david beckham plays the wing…same as ronoldo…so to say he doesnt put the ball on the ground or take on players is an absolutely ignorant and biased statement.
…now as for your dismissal of his bender…..when u see ronaldo and tevez and messi SCORE from a corner kick get back to me.
not to mention david beckham is 35 pushing 36. 32 is considered old.
1.ronaldo..was a diver until playing in England straightened him out..he now complains spanish players are dirty.
    2. tevez had no pressure on him playing behind ronoldo and wayne rooney who did most of the scoring.
    i love tevez.
    3. lionel messi plays nothing like tevez…and quite frankly you need to go and look up the fact that lionel messi was sent to doctors and put on human growth hormone for years because he was considered too small…in my opinion that is a performance enhancing drug he has benefitted from his entire career.
The Spanish league is NOT the premier league…as half of every game is spent diving and trying to cheat the ref to gain an advantage. messi is a diver also. in the uefa game against arsenal he blatantly and pathetically dove and cheated the ref and arsenal was winning 1-0 before two yellow cards completely altered the game as every defenseman was scared to defend against messi.
dont get me wrong…messi is brilliant….but i dont believe he could come close to accomplishing his statistics if he played in the premier leage. too small..and wouldnt benefit from the spanish leagues propensity to award a foul every time a player is touched at all.
also….come and hollar at me when messi does anything on the world stage. 30 attempts. no goals. that is a record for futility internationally.
and furthermore…spain doesnt take on ANYONE on the ground nor does argentina…spain has the best control of possession in the midfield in the world, and argentina presses everyone forward and sucks defensively.
beckham was an achilles injury away from being in 4 world cups for his country. also either he or pete shilton from england have the most caps in their countries history.
beckham is an icon like pele. he has cemented that.
he is the very best who ever lived, inarguably, at bending the ball. and for that ..teams like acmilan, real madrid, manchester united are still interested in his…fabio capella still chose him for the team…AT 35+ years old.
i like messi, i appreciate his talent…which is quickness and touch.
but you need to be honest gee….you are a sucker for the spanish league. you love that one touch style of midfield possession play… wher players dive and beg for a foul everytime they are challenged with the ball.
playing the referee is a disgrace to the game, it is dirty play. and in the premiership, which is the biggest, fastest, strongest league in the world…you get a red card for it.
i simply refuse to entertain the idea that messi could EVER score 30 goals in the premiership and he has scored none in the cup.. david beckham has a golden statue in a buddhist temple. when the news footage showed saddaam husseins statue being pulled down in iraq, a 7 yr old boy in iraq qas jumpin on saddams head wearing a beckham shirt.
you in fact are a lover of spanish football. just say it.
beckhams unique skill makes him one of the players the world will recognize and talk about forever. messi isnt that yet. beckham cas score goals. messi cannot score from a corner kick.
and if the spanish league is so superior in their style of play…then explain to us all why every single year three of the last four teams left in the UEFA are ENGLISH?
    4 years in a row.
for you to say beckham has no skill shows that you are more ignorant than most of the posters here. think abut that while you root for the spanish league players to dive, fake injuries, play the referee…handball goals into the net .
tevez plays in england…and is truly a great player. he desnt cheat the ref, he plays hard…and oh yeah…he even scores goals when wearing and argentina jersey.
when lionel messi gets chosen to play for 4 world cup teams you come and hollar at me. when he doesnt have to cheat the referee you come hollar at me. and finally when he comes over and does it in england…come and hollar at me. when he scores in the world cup, come holla at me. and finally when Messi is 36 and still playing you come hollar at me.
hmmm i wonder how good rooney, beckham, gerrard and lampard might have been had they been on steriods and human growth hormone in their developmental years.
funded by the barcelona system as far as i know.

  7. Ben, you let Gee bait you. He’s one of those fans who has probably never stepped on the pitch except to chase down an autograph or two, but assumes he knows something about football simply because he’s not from the States. Whatever. His dismissal of Beckham means he was probably in grammar school when Beckham was at his best, so don’t even bother bringing Pele into the discussion.

  8. to ben…who left that comment that could be considered a book, you my friend are definately english or an american who only knows about the EPL (English Premier League)
put simply, david beckham is a one trick pony, he can curve the ball oh sweet fuck so can i…its not that big of an achievment my 7 year old brother can curve a ball
david beckham played in La Liga, which u said was a dirty bitchy league and yes i agree there is far too much diving in continental european football, especially in the iberian peninsula and italy, buuut lets hang on a minute, old davey played there didn’t he? yup he did and lemme ask you a question, did he ever score 50+ goals in La Liga or any other premier league in one season in his life? ah, as far as i know, nope (correct me if i’m wrong) and as for the spaniards u keep fucking bitchying about, they are the world champions arent they?! haha where is england? fumbling balls into their net and losing to the germans and struggling to get a result against algeria! algeria! omf! english soccer players are all one trick pony’s who abuse lq too much ;p get real dude, david beckham isnt even in the top 20 soccer players, lionel messi has already accomplished far more than beckahm ever will, david beckham is a symbol, not a player, lionel messi is a player and a symbol, cya in 2014, when the argies and krauts will be beatin’ england senseless haha ;p but dont get me wrong, i do like england, just the english are far too cocky and dont understand that u have to actually do more than curve a ball to win a world cup!

  9. I don`t think Alasdair You should be as rude as you are and my boy let me remind you one thing Algeria is the national team as Spain Secondly let us agree EPL is far better than your La liga, stupid players go to Spain for money while the most wisdom players go to England for competitive football. never ever underestimate Africa “dog“

  10. Messi is currently the best overall player. Football salaries are not determined by only “how famous” a player is even though that is a large portion in terms of merchandise returns and product placement. In terms of salaries the major factor is your previous league performance, career achievements and effectiveness for the team in your position when compared to others in a similar position.

The list in terms of salaries is right, regardless if Messi performed better than C. Ron. or not.

As for Beckham, he didn’t even play in the FIFA Cup and is nowhere near the best player. However, being the best British player of his time and probably still one of the best currently has made him a media icon which is where the majority of his money is coming from.

He will probably make the most taking into account advertisment, and publicity but otherwise you can expect him to not earn in the top 10 simply because he won’t perform in the top 10.

As for the greatest player of all time you must be kidding right? What suddenly Maradonna, Pele, Cruyff, Bechenbauer, Charlton, Puskas, Platini, Hagi, Eusebio, and Yashin all dissappeared from the sport’s history books?

  11. Messi his a best player even though he earn lesser than Cristian Ronaldo bt that doesnt matter Bcos it his contract agreement with the payer.

  12. I dont think this has been updated. Try to update it as soon as possible because the world wants to know the about the current records.

  13. @ Ben.. David Beckam is just famous.. Comparing it to Lionel Messi; you gotta be kidding me right?
Don’t let your feminine side deceive you..

  14. I think you r just jeallous.. Chris Ronaldo is the best player of the world, he has the ability to make a team win alone, as he have been doin’.. 0nce C. Ronaldo was playing in M. Untd, Man UTD were the English Champions, when he left, what happend to man utd, runner’s up.. Last year in La Liga, Real only fighted for the title until the last fixture because of Ronaldo’s vital assists and goals..
You have to open your eyes, RONALDO IS THE BEST PLAYER.. Ronaldo is how Gaucho were in Barca a few yeas ago when he was 2 times the best player of the world.. I lve English ftbl but i got to say s0mething.. DAVID BECKHAM has already been replaced in Englsh national team.. We hve great player who can cross the ball, score from free kicks, run with the ball and smash from 35 or 40 yards, player like F. Lampard and of course the capitan STEVEN GERARD..
I am a Liverpool supporter but i hv t say, RONALDO is the best.. You cannot buy a player 80£ unless he is really gud..

  15. All you fools who are comign out with things like “C.Ronaldo” best player in the world…pff, load of crap. First of all, that list is either outdated or just completely wrong, Messi is without a doubt the highest played footballer in the history of the game…Rooney will soon take over that after the new contract with Man U rumoured to be worth £2 Million a month which is 37.6 million dollars a year.

I’ll admit Ronaldo is dazzling, a superb player, but he has too many flaws to ever be announced number 1, not with players like Kaka and Messi up there, and new sensations like Robinho and Benzema.

It’s pretty obvious Messi is the best in the world, YouTube some Messi videos…just look at the things he does with the ball, it wasn’t long ago the first ever player dribbled with the ball, now all good midfielders and attackers do it…but Messi is changing it all over again, some of the things he does with the ball is tremendous, comentater quote – “never seen anything like it”, not only that, but the fact of the matter is…the official list of the top 50 current best footballers in the world, as judged by the International Football Association, is topped with Messi.

So just because you fancy him, or have seen some of his world class moments does not make Ronaldo the best player in the world…most of the people that think that are either Man U supporters or Real Madrid supporters, the two most supported teams in the world, and that does not make him the best. Just watch what Messi has done with the ball…just because you don’t support his team, you can not even try and deny that he is without a doubt the most skillful, fast and most genius footballer that ever has lived, Pele was great for his time, but if he played now, as good as he did now, he would not get past defenses like Man U’s with Rafael, Ferdinand and Vidic leading it. But as seen last year, Messi absoloutely decimated them, yes Ronaldo (the Brazillian) was even better than Pele, but he would not be able to do what Messi does, Beckham would definitely not even come CLOSE to matching Messi, I support Man U, but neither would Rooney, or Torres, or Ibrahamovich, or Teves, or any other forward that has ever played.

  16. As for you Nuno, you can shut up RIGHT NOW.

“0nce C. Ronaldo was playing in M. Untd, Man UTD were the English Champions, when he left, what happend to man utd, runner’s up”

    You absoloute fucking retard.
Manchester United were champions long before Ronaldo was even born. They’ve won 58 titles so far, Ronaldo wasn’t even born when they won their first 7, and was 10 when they won their 31st, 15 when they won their 45th.

Don’t be so immature to think they came runners up because of that pathetic, diving wannabe Ronaldo. He is overrated.
His teammates make him good, when Rooney wasn’t playing Ronaldo barely scraped any goals, without Kaka and Benzema he would be nothing at Real Madrid.

    You are so stupid.
Look at the records, see how many titles Man United have won…Trying to make out Ronaldo made them, you must be some child who saw Ronaldo in his first ever football match and became gay by falling in love with that money grabbing bitch.

  17. Football is not all about dribbling, i know messi is the best dribbler in the world not best player. Best footballer need to have some characteristics b4 he is chosen as world best footballer. C Ronaldo has many of the characteristics he can dribble, he can shoot and score from distances on the pitch, he score free kicks, he is good at nodding. With these i think he deserve to be world highest paid footballer.

  18. there is no way u ppl are compering messi to
the cry baby ronaldo … what happen when they barca and real where playing who won that game ill tell u barca who scored messi who fucked ronlado messi whos the best player in the world messi soo noww goo sleep u and ur ronaldo son !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. u r 100 % right abo al sos
i think now these days ppl are gay they go over the looks and shitt ..
people stop sucking ronaldos dick , and stop saying that ronaldo is better cuz hes nottt
can u ppl get it ??

  20. can t u guys or gays 4 that matter see u been just chasing after the wind. u int achieved a thing since u started this buz. now i’ll tell u :- love sports cause u want to learn how 2b a champion or hav the spirit of an overcomer. rest of it is a frustrating pack. i can bet highest paid or not, MOST of these players and their peers are ill-equipped to know that whats even more important than the money or the fame or talent is the raison d’etre of it all… to serve God and humanity.. and u sure hav made urselves their slaves and miserable inconspicuous tapeworms of the religion football and its gods the footstars.
dont miss my point, discuss football on a less ignorant atmosphere and leave the actors to their destiny. who is the worst (paid) footballer? and so what? im not naive and ignorant, and u sure will find that out as soon as its time up for adaptation to life in the next world…sorry its not just a belief. its a fact. tak it or leave it…..

  21. hello
    to people that have sense
you must not compare ronaldo ability to messi
messi played in the means of quality players likes of xavi, eto, villa, macherano, alves, puyol, marquez guily, overmars, and the match winner iniesta starting from is career is just a magician and agoal scorer on international career can any boby tell me is ability when there is no xavi, iniesta a single goal he can provide not to talk of goal………..is a goog player but he can player in the means of upcoming players and assis them to victory BUT
RONALDO from sporting lisbon he as been struggling he always carry the work of the team and do it along some time when he was is man utd who is oshea flechter, carrick, rossi, anderson he alwaus struggle with the team only giggs and scholes are the expert players and is frd rooney he is good goal scorer free kicker, header shot frm distance and so on and who is madrid? b4 he get there kaka is know wher to be find because he his self reliance player he do all the job alone and he try this season too every body knows that hugian is not a good goal score.score one loss ten benzema is off form di maria is not performing up to expectation macelo is not a good 3 at all and is still struggling assiting and toping the goal scorer what else did you want from him………..
UP BACERLONA FAN just advice messi to go to man city or chlesea and wait for the worse of messi am sure premiership will not have mercy on him……………….
    THANKZZZZZZZZZZ

  22. WAYNE ROONEY … ? GETS ATLEAST £8 MILLION A YEAR THATS LIKE $20 MILLION !! HMM MANCHESTER UNITED TIL I DIE !!!

  23. Messi deserves to reach at the first spot. He is the best player in the World by far distance compared to christiano ronaldo…who is just a selfish ass !! Messi has got ballon D’or in 2010 as well … which makes him only 2nd player after Marco Van Basten to have it consecutively. With the current form, no wonder Messi gonna be thirst time Ballon D’or Winner next year. No Surprise!!

  24. Cristiano Ronaldo is the best in the world,Messi comes 2nd!check their scorng rate if u think i am not teling the honest truth

  25. c.ronaldo is the best player in the world .i love c.ronaldo and he is expensive player in d world

  26. hi c.ronaldo! it’s sujan from nepal .i am your great fan.i want to tell you that you are not fit in real madrid.you are fit in man united. now real madrid coach is looking for english club so i think that you will come at man united.

  27. To be sincere football is a game of pleasure.arsene wenger need to pay v persie double salary because of his performance in arsenal.

  28. C Ronaldo is a good player but Lionel messi is my mentor and to me he is very cute and disciplined. He is a great player and a reborn of a great legend Diego Maradona.

  29. I tink both CR7 & MESSI are fantastic players, every coach would like to have both of them in there team. For the best i pick MESSI. I haven’t seen any player like dat on earth. With his form now, i see him winning world best 4 the 3rd time

  30. oh puh-lease!!! Messi can’t even play his best if without his Barca teammates…so don’t daydream all you messi fans…no matter how you hate the fact—it is clear—just check the numbers…manchester united or real madrid…C.Ronaldo is a beast (good conotation) when goals are concerned…he can play all on his own without his teammates help…of course that’s ideal in real football but we are comparing them individually right…so shut up and accept the fact… CRISTIANO RONALDO IS WAAAYYYYYY BETTER….SIMPLY UNCOMPARABLE…(eat that.)

  31. pls tell carlo aceloti to go and stop destroying chelsea.Tores should be given out as a gift 2 anu 3rd division

  32. C.ronaldo is better dan messi y c.r as played in man.u and he shine and now in real .m and also shine but messi do wat to live barca and barca is a good team if messi come to english leg he we not play any thing i luv d both but c.r is better dan messi.
