The 28-year old Czech player has been in the top 10 for quite some time. He’s been to one Wimbledon Final (2010), two more Grand Slam finals (in Paris and New York) and to the Australian Open quarter finals three consecutive years.

However, he doesn’t really bring home too many trophies, winning only 8 single’s titles over the years, the last of them in Stockholm over a year ago. He reached three finals in 2013 – Marseille, Dubai and Bangkok, but lost in all three of them.

He has beaten top 10 players this season: Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray (twice) and Richard Gasquet. However, looking at his record over the years against the other 7 players he’ll be playing in the tournament: Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, David Ferrer, Juan Martin Del Potro, Roger Federer, Stanislas Wawrinka and Richard Gasquet, he has a losing record against all of them.

He’s a this worst when he plays either Nadal or Djokovic, with a combined 5-30 record against the two players. Things look slightly better against Roger Federer (6-11), but not by much. He has beaten David Ferrer 3 times in 10 matches, and Juan Martin Del Potro twice out of 6 matches. He is quite even with Wawrinka, winning five times out of 12 matches, and has beaten Gasquet three times in 8 meetings.

Other interesting head to head tidbits: Roger Federer has never lost to David Ferrer, winning all 14 matches against him. Rafael Nadal is perfect against Wawrinka (11 for 11) and Gasquet (12 for 12).
