A change at the top as Mississippi State can no longer be ignored, beating Auburn and moving up to the number one spot while Florida State, still undefeated, and moving down one spot. Ole Miss remain at number three, while Baylor and Notre Dame rise one spot each as they remain undefeated and keep on winning. UCLA got knocked out after two consecutive losses, while Clemson and USC are back thanks to narrow victories.

Mississippi State complete the remarkable achievement of moving from being unranked to being the number one team in just five weeks. In the 78 years of the AP Poll, they’re the first to accomplish it, beating Ohio State’s mark of six weeks from 1954.

1. Mississippi State Bulldogs (45 First Place Votes), 6-0: You can’t keep on beating top 10 teams and not make the number one at some point. The 38-23 win over Auburn did it, raising them a couple of spots.

2. Florida State Seminoles (12), 6-0: Still undefeated with Jameis Winston as their quarterback after beating Syracuse 38-20, but not winning against exciting competition most of the way cost them the top spot for the first time this year.

3. Ole Miss Rebels (3), 6-0: Same place they were in last week, not sharing it this time, after beating the sliding Texas A& on the road 35-20.

4. Baylor Bears, 6-0: Rose one spot after an incredible comeback against TCU, beating the until-now undefeated Horned Frogs 61-58.

5. Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 6-0: Pulling away in the fourth quarter from North Carolina, beating the Tar Heels 50-43 to make it into the top 5.

6. Auburn Tigers, 5-1: Losing 38-23 to Mississippi State cost the Tigers a four spot slide.

7. Alabama Crimson Tide, 5-1: Stayed where they were last week after barely scraping by Arkansas, beating the Razorbacks 14-13.

8. Michigan State Spartans, 5-1: The best of the Big Ten teams came away from Purdue with a 45-31 win, keeping them in the same spot.

9. Oregon Ducks, 5-1: A three-spot rise for the Ducks after an impressive 42-30 win on the road against UCLA.

10. Georgia Bulldogs, 5-1: No Todd Gurley, but still an impressive 34-0 shutout of Missouri in Columbia, rising three spots.

11. Oklahoma Sooners, 5-1: Bounced back quite nicely from losing to TCU by beating Texas 31-26 in the Red River Showdown, not moving in the polls.

12. TCU Horned Frogs, 5-1: No longer undefeated after wasting away a 21 point lead in 11 minutes, falling three spots after their 61-58 loss to Baylor.

13. Ohio State Buckeyes, 4-1: Creeping up the rankings again, moving up two spots even though they didn’t play.

14. Kansas State Wildcats, 4-1: Didn’t play, still moved up three spots.

15. Oklahoma State Cowboys, 5-1: A 27-20 win over Kansas in Lawrence was enough for them to move up one spot.

16. Arizona Wildcats, 5-1: Kings of the Pac-12 for one week, losing 28-26 at home to USC and falling six spots.

17. Arizona State Sun Devils, 4-1: Didn’t play and still moved up three spots.

18. East Carolina Pirates, 5-1: Two touchdowns in the fourth quarter helped East Carolina move up a spot and beat South Florida 28-17.

19. Nebraska Cornhuskers, 5-1: Didn’t play, moved up two spots.

20. Utah Utes, 4-1: Didn’t play, moved up four spots.

21. Texas A&M Aggies, 5-2: Losing for a second consecutive week, beaten 35-20 at home by Ole Miss and falling a further seven spots.

22. USC Trojans, 4-2: Thanks to walking away with a 28-26 win over Arizona on the road, the Trojans are back in the rankings, climbing six spots.

23. Stanford Cardinal, 4-2: A 34-17 win over Washington State puts them two spots higher than they were last week.

24. Clemson Tigers, 4-2: Back in the rankings (moving up two spots) after a 23-17 win over Louisville.

25. Marshall Thundering Herd, 6-0: Dominating in the ultra weak conference USA, putting them in the rankings for the first time this season after beating Middle Tennessee 49-14.
