After missing more than half the season due to an ACL & MCL tear, Stevan Ridley is trying to find his way back in the NFL, hoping that interest from the Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, Minnesota Vikings and Dallas Cowboys turns into a contract.
The Vikings and Cowboys’ interest isn’t as strong as it was last month. He has already met with both the Dolphins and the Jets and has one more meeting set up for this week, but feels that the two AFC East teams are his strongest options.
The Dolphins don’t have a number-two options behind Lamar Miller at the moment, while the Jets, with Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell, don’t mind loading up on running backs considering how poor their passing game has been last season.
Ridley, a third round pick by the Patriots in 2011, had a fine start to his career in New England, including rushing for 1263 yards in 2012. But running backs don’t have a high value in Belichick’s eyes, and reduced Ridley’s role significantly in 2013, cutting it by 112 touches.
Last season he played in six games before his serious injury, finishing with 340 yards on 94 carries, scoring a couple of touchdowns and his YPC dropping to 3.6 per game. He has never been very involved in the passing game with a total of 23 receptions throughout his four NFL seasons.
