A big day for Kenya with two gold medals: One for David Rudisha, the king of the men’s 800 meters run, and a surprising one to Nicolas Bett in the men’s 400 meters hurdles. Greg Rutherford of Great Britain won the long jump competition, like he did in the Olympics, Genzebe Dibaba of Ethiopia won the women’s 1500 meters and Denia Caballero of Cuba took gold in the women’s discus throw.
Men’s 800 meters: David Rudisha of Kenya wins the event in the world’s for the second time, adding to his Olympic gold from London. He ran a 1:45.84, beating Adam Kszczot of Poland, taking silver with a 1:46.08 and Amel Tuka of Bosnia, taking bronze with a 1:46.30.
Men’s 400 meters hurdles: A surprising win for Kenyan Nicholas Bett with 47.79 to take gold, the best result in 2015 by anyone. Silver went to Denis Kudryavtsev with 48.05, a national record. Bronze to Jeffery Gibson of the Bahamas with 48.17, also a national record.
Men’s long jump: The Olympic champion, Greg Rutherford of Great Britain, did it again in Beijing, taking gold after a seasonal best at 8.41. Fabrice Lapierre of Australia jumped a season best 8.24 to take silver, and Wang Jianan of China took bronze on a 8.18.
Women’s 1500 meters: Genzebe Dibaba of Ethiopia took gold with 4:08.09, quite far from her world record time of 3:50. Silver went to Faith Chepngetich Kipyegon of Kenya after a 4:08.96, and bronze to Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands on a 4:09.34.
Women’s discus throw: Denia Caballero of Cuba won the gold on a 69.28, way ahead of Sandra Perkovic of Croatia with a 67.39 to take silver and Nadine Muller of Germany with a 65.53 to take bronze.
