January 25, 1987 – Phil Simms, with a nearly perfect performance, led the Giants in their first Super Bowl to a convincing 39-20 win over the Denver Broncos and John Elway. Simms won the MVP, throwing for 268 yards and three touchdowns while completing 22 of 25 passes. Commercial cost for 30 seconds – 600,000 dollars.

January 31, 1988 – Another NFC win, this time at the Jack Murphy stadium in San Diego, with Doug Williams leading the Washington Redskins to their second Super Bowl victory. The Denver Broncos were on the losing side once again. The Redskins won 42-10, scoring 42 unanswered points from the second quarter onwards, shattering numerous Super Bowl record along the way, including most offensive yards and most touchdowns scored in a Super Bowl. Doug Williams, the Redskins quarterback, won the MVP, throwing for 34o yards and four touchdowns. Commercial cost – 645,000.

January 22, 1989 – A repeat of Super Bowl XVI, with the 49ers winning again. Joe Montana led the 49ers to a 92 yard drive in just under 3 minutes, throwing a touchdown pass to John Taylor with 35 second left on the clock and win the game 20-16. Jerry Rice on the MVP, catching 11 passes for 215 yards and a touchdown.

January 28, 1990 – Joe Montana won his third Super Bowl MVP and the 49ers won their fourth Super Bowl, crushing the Denver Broncos 55-10. It still is the biggest margin of victory in a Super Bowl and the most points scored by one team in a Super Bowl. Montana passed for 297 yards and 5 touchdowns. Commercial cost – 700,000.

January 27, 1991 – More NFC dominance and the beginning of the Bills losing heritage. The New York Giants became the first and only team to win a Super Bowl by one point, as Scott Norwood’s field goal attempt sailed wide right in Tampa and the Giants won their third Super Bowl 20-19. Giants running back Ottis Anderson won the MVP, running for 102 yards and a touchdown. Commercial cost – 800,000.

January 26, 1992 – The Redskins won their third Super Bowl, the first team to win with three different quarterbacks and Joe Gibbs became the third head coach to win his third Super Bowl. The Redskins beat the Buffalo Bills 37-24 in a game which was finished pretty much after the second quarter with the Redskins leading 17-0. Quarterback Mark Rypien won the MVP, throwing for 292 yards and two touchdowns. Commercial cost – 850,000.

January 31, 1993 – The third Super Bowl victory for the Dallas Cowboys and their first in 15 years. The third consecutive Super Bowl loss for the Buffalo Bills. Jimmy Johnson’s Cowboys destroyed the Bills 52-17 and Cowboys quarterback won the MVP, throwing for 273 yards and four touchdowns. Commercial cost – 850,000.

January 30, 1994 – The last of the Bills’ four consecutive Super Bowl losses. The Bills were actually leading at half time (13-6), but 24 unanswered points by Dallas in the second half meant it was a fourth Super Bowl trophy for the Cowboys and a fourth straight Super Bowl loss for the Bills. Emmitt Smith ran for 132 yards and scored two touchdowns, winning the MVP. Commercial cost – 900,000.

January 29, 1995 – A record breaking Super Bowl in a number of aspects – The 49ers became the first franchise to win five Super Bowls and the combined score of 75 points (49-26) remains a Super Bowl record. This was also the first time both teams scored in all four quarters. Played in Miami, Steve Young won the Super Bowl MVP, throwing for six touchdown passes, 325 yards and running for 49, becoming the first player to be the top passer and rusher in the game. Commercial cost – 1.15 million.

January 28, 1996 – The Dallas Cowboys joined the 49ers as five time Super Bowl winners, beating the Pittsburgh Steelers 27-17 at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona. This is the Steelers only Super Bowl loss in seven visits. Larry Brown of the Cowboys became the first cornerback to win the Super Bowl MVP, intercepting Neil O’Donnell twice, both of them later converted into touchdowns. Commercial cost – 1.085 million.

January 26, 1997 – Brett Favre wins his only Super Bowl and the Green Bay Packers win their first since Super Bowl II, winning the franchises 12th NFL championship. The 35-21 win over the New England Patriots was the 13th consecutive NFC win and 15th of the last sixteen Super Bowls. Kick/Punt returner Desmond Howard won the MVP, returning for a combined 244 yards and scoring the game clinching touchdown on a 99 yard kickoff return. Commercial cost – 1.2 million.

January 25, 1998 – Qualcomm stadium in San Diego became the first stadium to host the Super Bowl and a World Series in the same year as the Denver Broncos, 11 point underdogs, led by John Elway, won their first Super Bowl afte four previous losses,  beating the Green Bay Packers 31-24. Running back Terrell Davis won the MVP despite suffering from a migraine during the game, running for 157 yards and scoring three touchdowns. Commercial cost – 1.3 million.

January 31, 1999 – John Elway won the Super Bowl MVP, leading the Broncos to their second consecutive Super Bowl victory, beating the Atlanta Falcons 34-19 in Miami. This was Elway’s final career game, finishing with a 336 yard game, passing for one and running for one touchdown. Commercial cost – 1.6 million.

January 30, 2000 – The Georgia Dome hosted the St. Louis Rams’ first Super Bowl win and first NFL championship since 1951 as they beat the Tennessee Titans 23-16 with quarterback Kurt Warner winning the MVP, throwing for 414 yards and two touchdowns. Warner completed a 73 yard pass to Isaac Bruce that put the Rams 23-16 ahead. The Titans final drive brought them to the Rams’ 10 yard line with six seconds remaining. The last play ended with Titans receiver Kevin Dyson stopped by Rams linebacker Mike Jones one yard short of the end zone. Commercial cost – 1.1 million.
