NFL Rumors – Cowboys Sign Alfred Morris, Close to Patrick Robinson Deal Too

Alfred Morris Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys haven’t been very active in free agency… until now. They’ve wrapped up the Alfred Morris deal, and are about to complete one with Patrick Robinson.

The Cowboys had both players over for visits, and things worked out quite well with Morris, a four-year veteran running back who played for the Washington Redskins since being drafted in 2012. He signed a two year deal with a base salary of $3.5 million over the two seasons, and with incentives that could end up being $5.5 million, meaning the Cowboys didn’t have to dig too deep to add a pretty good back to their mix.

As for Robinson, who the Cowboys have tried to sign in the past, it’s down to the next meeting with his agent, although there is some agents situation Robinson needs to resolve. Whatever it may be, it’s going to be very surprising if he doesn’t end up playing for the Cowboys next season and close the deal in the next few days. The contract is rumored to be a three-year deal.

Patrick Robinson

Morris has been quite productive earlier in his NFL career, rushing for 1613 yards his rookie season and 1275 yards in 2013. Overall he has 4713 yards in four seasons but his carries dropped to 202 last season and his yards per carry also fell to 3.7, with the Redskins moving away from the run as Kirk Cousins turned out to be everything they’ve wanted out of a quarterback. He also had just one rushing touchdown in 2015. He has played in all 64 games over the last four years.

Robinson, a cornerback, has six NFL seasons behind him. He played for the New Orleans Saints from 2010 to 2014, and signed a one-year deal with the Chargers in 2015 after he listened to offers from a number of teams, including the Cowboys. He had one interceptions and 8 passes defended in 16 games for San Diego last season.

The Cowboys should have around $5-6 million in cap space remaining after picking up Morris and hopefully Robinson. That will probably conclude their free agency dealings and denies any chance Greg Hardy comes back. With the fourth overall pick to think about, almost their entire focus shifts to the NFL draft.
