Match Highlights – West Ham vs Liverpool
Something isn’t working for Liverpool so far in the start of the 2014-2015 season, losing 3-1 to West Ham at Upton Park, making it their third defeat in five matches and two losses in a row. For the Hammers, who scored two very early goals through Winston Reid and Diafra Sakho, it was their first home win of the season. Raheem Sterling made things interesting, but Morgan Almafitano scored late to finish all hopes of a comeback.

Match Highlights – Aston Villa vs Arsenal, Deportivo vs Real Madrid
Four minutes of dominance were enough for Arsenal to finally capture a Premier League win, beating Aston Villa 3-0 as the Mesut Ozil – Dannye Welbeck connection worked especially well. Another team bouncing back from a rough time are Real Madrid, destroying Deportivo 8-2 with a hat trick from Cristiano Ronaldo and braces for both Gareth Bale and Javier Hernandez.

Champions League – Week 1 Results & Table (Groups E – H)
The biggest match of the second day in the opening week for the Champions League was decided with a 90th minute goal as Bayern Munich beat Manchester City. Barcelona didn’t work hard to open with a minimal win over APOEL Nicosia, while Chelsea suffered from a little bit of cruel justice in a home draw against Schalke.

Match Highlights – Chelsea vs Schalke, Barcelona vs APOEL
After doing so well since the start of the season, Chelsea are finally held without a win, drawing 1-1 with Schalke, equalizing through Klaas-Jan Huntelaar after an opener from Cesc Fabregas which should have been disallowed. Barcelona didn’t look very impressive once again, but one goal from Gerard Pique in the first half was enough for a 1-0 win over APOEL Nicosia.

It seems that Mesut Ozil finds himself facing new and harsher criticism with every bad match and result for Arsenal, constantly fueling the discussion of whether it truly is his fault that he has been playing so poorly or is it more a matter of positioning and having the right players around him.

Champions League – Week 1 Predictions (Groups E – H)
The Champions League continues with Groups E to H to conclude the first week in the competition as Bayern Munich playing against Manchester City takes up the main focus, although plenty of attention will be given to Chelsea hosting Schalke in another group rematch from last season while Barcelona hope not to allow APOEL from Cyprus to start another Cinderella run.

The Champions League returns with Arsenal crashing at Dortmund, Real Madrid crushing Basel at home and Liverpool making a triumphant return to the competition although it was far from impressive, finding it very difficult to beat Ludogorets.

Match Highlights – Liverpool vs Ludogorets, Dortmund vs Arsenal
Not the smoothest of returns for Liverpool in the Champions League, but a dramatic finish allowed them to come away with a 2-1 win over Ludogorets, getting a debut goal from Mario Balotelli and an injury time winner by Steven Gerrard. Arsenal crashed and burned in Dortmund, losing 2-0 in an awful performance to the home side with goals from Ciro Immobile and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Champions League – Week 1 Predictions (Groups A – D)
And so it begins. The 2014-2015 Champions League kick off its group stage with the defending champions in action, hosting the always dangerous FC Basel. Liverpool make their return to the competition after five seasons, playing at home against Ludogorets of Bulgaria, while the most interesting encounter is the now almost annual match between Dortmund and Arsenal in Group D.
