    Barcelona and AC Milan gave us a wonderful opening night while Trabzonspor provided the upset part of the first week of games in the UEFA Champions League.

    Alexandre Pato opened the scoring and Thiago Silva ended it, ending the Barcelona – AC Milan Super Clash in a 2-2 draw. In between? A lot of Barcelona possession, a bit of Lionel Messi (assist) and one wonderful David Villa free kick.

    Juventus opened the 2011-2012 Serie A with an impressive 4-1 win over Parma, with new arrival Andrea Pirlo making a succesful debut (2 assists) and Antonio Conte beginning his head coaching career with a bang.

    Took only two weeks for the first of the two Spanish giants to drop points – It was Barcelona, who managed to squander a comfortable 2-0 away lead against Real Sociedad to a 2-2 finish. Meanwhile, in Madrid, Getafe didn’t make it easy for Jose Mourinho’s side, but Real were too good, as expected, en route to a 4-2 victory.

    Get this, from the mouth of Arsene Wenger, from yesterday, heading up to the match with Swansea – the Arsenal squad is now stronger than it was before the exit of key duo Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri. Coming after the 8-2 defeat and the international break, Wenger seems strangely optimistic.

The most successful club in Italian football inaugurated their brand new stadium, yet to be named (The Juventus Arena for now) in a draw with Notts County, the club that brought the Nerrazuri the Zebra colors in the beginning of the 20th century. The first modern football stadium in Italy, in Juventus there’s hope and belief that a new era, with new titles and long lost success will begin.

    Chris Bosh expects to be in training, with his Miami Heat teammates, pretty soon. NBA Lockout or no, Bosh, an NBA finalist just a few months ago, plans to be ready in time for training camp. I guess the fact that hardly any progress has been made these past three months doesn’t really gets him worried.

    Panic day, as August 31 should be called, was as usual, busy as ever. In England it was Arsene Wenger, pressing the panic button and going against everything he usually preaches regarding players he signs and the Great Plan. Inter Milan were quite busy themselves and in all the past few days were quite hectic regarding fax machines, phone calls between Football directors and contract signings.

  • Barcelona vs Real Madrid Title Race, Week 1

    The Spanish La Liga opened, finally, this weekend. It’s going to be a two horse raise, as usual, between the champions for the last three seasons, Barcelona, and Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid. Both teams’ opening matches were a festival of goals and weak opposition, also foreshadowing the pichichi firing shot, with Both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo starting strong.
