  • What’s More Important – Winning the Conference Tournament or Regular Season Title?

    Missouri won the Big 12 tournament for the eighth and final time before shipping off to the SEC, beating Baylor. Should it put them ahead of Kansas in the seeding for the NCAA Tournament? Kansas are #3 on the AP poll, Mizzou #5. I don’t know if winning the tournament gives you the go ahead over the regular season champion. I think it shouldn’t, but I’m also not sure it matters.

  • Kentucky SEC Perfection Not Changed By Florida

    The Kentucky Wildcats became just the third SEC team since Alabama in 1956 to go unbeaten in the conference. All three times it was a Kentucky team, including the 1996 championship Rick Pitino team. In his third season with the Wildcats, John Calipari has taken his team into the tournament as the number one seed, with Florida as the latest victim in a 74-59 dominating win.

  • North Carolina Come Out on Top in ACC and Duke Rivalry

    The North Carolina Tar Heels took a major blow in their January 14 drubbing against Florida State. A month later, the buzzer beater from Austin Rivers was heartbreaking. Seven consecutive wins later and a convincing 88-70 regular season ending win over Duke, Roy Williams and his guys are in a very good place.

    Through the 73 years of the tournament’s history, which has mostly become known as “March Madness” although it slips a bit into April (finals on April 2), the UCLA Bruins, Kentucky Wildcats, North Carloina Tar Heels, Duke Blue Devils and Indiana Hoosiers (not recently) have distinguished themselves as bit, or more, above the rest of the pack in terms of achievements.

    Well, Tonight is the night all the conference tournaments in College Basketball begin, and it is actually the beginning of the “Big Dance” or “March Madness”. Some or most would say that only when the 64 team NCAA Tournament begins you can say it’s “March Madness” time, but I believe that it starts a week earlier, like tonight. Besides deciding tournament champions for each Conference, who will get in or out of the tournament it can be a factor in deciding how many Big East teams get a number one seed, and who will get it at all.
