First Victor Ortiz, and who knows what else afterwards. Floyd Mayweather hasn’t fought in the ring since May 2010. He has fought outside the ring – courts, security guards, the IRS. Still haunted by legal problems, Mayweather (41-0, 25 KOs) will make his return to the ring against the WBC Welterweight champion, Victor Ortiz (29-2-2, 22 KOs), on September 17, 2011.

While the big news right now is that Mayweather has finally found it in his heart and mind to return to boxing, for whatever reasons, it’ll be insignificant if he finally does what every boxing fan in the world wants of him – to accept a Pacquiao fight, if he beats Ortiz.

Mayweather is undefeated, 41-0. He’s a five-division World Champion and has won nine title belts. Before his hiatus, we was considered to be the best pound for pound fighter in the world. Yes, probably better than Manny Pacquiao, who has taken the throne in the past year. The opponent he’s choses though, is an interesting one. Ortiz is not someone looking for a fat check while dreaming about a golden retirement. He’s only 24, he’s a champions, he was part of one of the best fights of the year (Ortiz – Berton in April) – it’s much better than Pacquiao’s last one versus Mosley.

A Manny Pacquiao bout ahead? Who knows. It wasn’t only about the drug testing issue. Mayweather also made a comment about the legal problems hounding him preventing him from getting involved in such a fight. Are those legal problems gone? Maybe he needs the cash?

On the subject of drug testing – Ortiz accepted the random blood and urine testing. Pacquiao also agreed to it at the time, but there were issued regarding the protocol, causing the talks to collapse.

Mayweather is a douche. No need to really know him to understand that, but he’s an amazing fighter, one of the greatest ever in my opinion. Very few have had that kind of skill set. He has a problem with lefties, so Ortiz might pose more of a problem than most usually do. Also, being away from the sport for so long will probably have some sort of effect on Mayweather.

I like Ortiz, but I really hope Mayweather beats him. I think that Pacquiao is running out of opponents he can man handle, and there’s a good chance, at least my gut feeling tells me, that we’ll finally have the fight, predicted to be the biggest money maker in boxing history, unless Mayweather does something very stupid, which he potentially can, outside of the ring.
