Barcelona win Champions League Title with a 2-0 Victory over Man U

Lionel Messi

Barcelona beat Manchester United 2-0 and won their third Champions League Trophy and the second in the last four years. Samuel Eto’o in the 9th minute and Lionel Messi in the 70th minute sealed the deal for Barca which dominated the entire second half and the late part of the first. United started strong with Ronaldo shooting from everywhere possible but Eto’o quickly silenced the English fans after Andres Iniesta fed him with a brilliant ball and Eto’o finished well in front of goal.

As the game progressed Barca took control of the midfield, with Xavi and Iniesta anchoring the team while United seemed to become more irritable and nervous. The second half started with Anderson coming off for Carlos Tevez, an attack-minded substitution but United lost control of the Middle and hardly got near Barca’s box during the second half. Rooney, Ronaldo, Tevez and later on Berbatov just couldn’t produce anything.

On the other end Barca finished things off with a beautiful cross from Xavi that was met with Messi’s head, sealing the score 2-0. Barcelona were much closer to a third than United were to scoring at all. The English domination was halted, at least for a night and the team that represented “beautiful soccer” to many people won the trophy, the deserving side. Barcelona become the first Spanish team to complete a treble, winning the domestic title, domestic cup and European Champions Cup.
