Getting wins on the road against big rivals continues to be an issue in the top conferences, but Indiana, for now, are holding on to the top spot after two huge victories, including against state rivals Purdue. Undefeated (in the ACC) Miami and Gonzaga (In the WCC) are also receiving top spot votes in the latest College Basketball rankings.
1. Indiana Hoosiers (43 first place votes), 23-3: Kept the top spot after two big wins against Nebraska and Purdue. Have a huge visit to Michigan State coming up.
2. Miami Hurricanes (20 first place votes), 21-3: Climbed up a spot, continuing to dominate in the ACC with wins over Florida State and Clemson, keeping them undefeated in conference play.
3. Gonzaga Bulldogs (2), 25-2: Like Miami, they’re perfect in their conference so far with a 12-0 record, beating Saint Mary’s and San Francisco last week, climbing two spots.
4. Michigan State Spartans, 22-4: Followed a huge rivalry win over Michigan by beating Nebraska, and could climb even further if they beat Indiana, climbing four spots this week.
5. Florida Gators, 21-3: More rivalry week winners after a huge win against Kentucky, followed by a big win over Auburn, putting them on top of the SEC at 11-1.
6. Duke Blue Devils, 22-3: Fell four spots after starting the weak beating North Carolina by only 5 points before losing in Maryland.
7. Michigan Wolverines, 22-4: Continue to lose on their big road games, dropping three spots after losing at Michigan State, followed by a win against Penn State.
8. Syracuse Orange, 21-4: Fell two spots due to their loss against Connecticut, followed by a win at Seton Hall.
9. Kansas Jayhawks, 21-4: Back on the saddle, winning two games against Kansas State and Texas, but by more than 20 points, lifting them 5 spots in the rankings.
10. Louisville Cardinals, 21-5: A good week for Rick Pitino and his guys, beating St. John’s and South Florida, putting them 0.5 a game behind the leaders in the Big East.
11. Georgetown Hoyas, 19-4: Two impressive wins against Marquette and Cincinnati lifted the Hoyas four spots, sharing the lead in the Big East.
12. Arizona Wildcats, 21-4: Started out bad by losing to Colorado and looked a bit better after beating Utah. They fell three spots in the rankings, and are now one game behind Oregon in the Pac-12.
13. Kansas State Wildcats, 20-5: A huge win over Baylor washed the bad taste in their mouths after being defeated in Lawrence by Kansas, falling three spots as a result.
14. Oklahoma State Cowboys, 19-5: Probably the most surprising team in the Big 12 with a 9-3 conference record, beating Texas Tech and Oklahoma this week, climbing three spots.
15. Butler Bulldogs, 21-5: Not a great week for Butler, falling behind in the Atlantic 10 after a loss to Charlotte and a win against Fordham couldn’t stop them from dropping four spots.
16. New Mexico Lobos, 22-4: Lead the MWC (9-2) after wins against Fresno and Boise State.
17. Marquette Golden Eagles, 18-6: Share the lead in the Big East with two other teams; beat Pitt after losing to Georgetown, still climbing a spot in the rankings.
18. Ohio State Buckeyes, 18-7: Beat Northwestern, but lost by 22 points to Wisconsin, causing them to fall five spots in the rankings.
19. Wisconsin Badgers, 18-8: Began the week by losing to Minnesota, but followed it up with another huge home win, this time against the Buckeyes, climbing a spot.
20. Pittsburgh Panthers, 20-6: Lost their only game to Marquette, causing them to drop four spots in the rankings, picking up six losses in the Big East.
21. Memphis Tigers, 22-3: Still perfect in Conference USA (11-0) after wins against UCF and Marshall, rising a spot in the rankings.
22. Colorado State Rams, 21-4: Still close to New Mexico in the MWC, grabbing wins over San Diego State and Air Force this week, rising two spots.
23. Oregon Ducks, 21-5: Two wins over Washington and Washington State kept Oregon on top of the Pac-12, but didn’t move them in the rankings.
24. VCU Rams, 21-5: Two wins over UMass and George Washington put VCU in the rankings after not being in the top 25 last week.
25. Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 20-6: Fell four spots due to their loss to Providence following a win against DePaul, but starting the week with a win against Pitt bodes well for the next rankings.
Dropped from rankings: Kentucky.
