The number one team in the nation remains Florida State according to the rankings, but Oregon leap over Alabama to the number two spot thanks to their win over Michigan State as the Big Ten took some major hits from the voters and on the field. BYU, destroying Texas, and Virginia Tech, stunning Ohio State, are newcomers to the top 25 this season.

1. Florida State Seminoles (38 First Place Votes), 2-0: Nothing special from the Seminoles, beating Citadel 37-12, but at this point, not struggling or making big mistakes keeps them at the top spot.

2. Oregon Ducks (16), 2-0: Moved up a spot and gained 11 first place votes thanks to a huge 46-27 win over Michigan State in a game that was closer than the scoreline shows.

3. Alabama Crimson Tide (1), 2-0: Didn’t lose, but didn’t beat anyone impressive. A 41-0 win over Florida Atlantic these days equals a one spot fall in the rankings.

4. Oklahoma Sooners (2), 2-0: Another team that didn’t get a worthy rival, beating Tulsa 52-7, but it did come on the road, and they didn’t drop or rise this week.

5. Auburn Tigers, 2-0: An impressive 59-13 over San Jose State didn’t help Auburn move up the rankings.

6. Georgia Bulldogs (1), 1-0: Didn’t play, didn’t move.

7. Texas A&M Aggies (2), 2-0: A two spot rise for the Aggies despite not beating anyone impressive. Their post-Manziel era carried on with a 73-3 win over Lamar.

8. Baylor Bears, 2-0: Seth Russell, the backup quarterback, threw five touchdown passes as Baylor rose a couple of spots and beat Northwestern State 70-6.

9. USC Trojans, 2-0: A five spot rise for the Trojans with one of the more impressive wins of the weekend, beating Stanford on the road 13-10.

10. LSU Tigers, 2-0: A two spot rise for LSU, also playing against an FCS opponent, beating Sam Houston State 56-0.

11. Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 2-0: A five spot climb for the Irish thanks to a great way to end their rivalry with Michigan, beating the Wolverines 31-0.

12. UCLA Bruins, 2-0: UCLA actually fell one spot despite staying undefeated, as they once again didn’t impress against a less-than impressive opponent, beating Memphis 42-35.

13. Michigan State Spartans, 1-1: A second half collapse in Eugene cost the Spartans their first loss in almost a year, losing 46-27 to Oregon and falling six spots as a result. They’re the highest ranked one-loss team.

14. Ole Miss Rebels, 2-0: Ole Miss beat a conference rival in Vanderbilt, destroying the Commodores 41-3 on the road, but rose just one spot thanks to that win.

15. Stanford Cardinal, 1-1: Turns out that losing to a ranked opponent isn’t the end of the world. They were beat 13-10 at home by USC but fell just two spots.

16. Arizona State Sun Devils, 2-0: A one spot climb for Arizona State, beating New Mexico 58-23 after a huge performance from D.J. Foster.

17. Virginia Tech Hokies, 2-0: New to the rankings thanks to their impressive win over Ohio State in Columbus, beating the Buckeyes 35-21.

18. Wisconsin Badgers, 1-1: A slow start against Western Illinois didn’t get in the way of a 37-3 win, keeping Wisconsin where they were last week.

19. Kansas State Wildcats, 2-0: Overcame a physical game in Ames against Iowa State, winning Farmageddon 32-28 and rising one spot.

20. Missouri Tigers, 2-0: Thanks to some other results, Missouri climb four spots despite their 49-24 win over Toledo not actually impressing anyone.

21. Louisville Cardinals, 2-0: A 66-21 win over Murray State helps Louisville keep rising, this time a four spot climb.

22. Ohio State Buckeyes, 1-1: An incredible 14-spot slide due to a home loss against Virginia Tech, 35-21.

23. Clemson Tigers, 1-1: Bounced back from their defeat against Georgia by pummeling South Carolina State 73-7, not moving in the rankings.

24. South Carolina, 1-1: Struggled against East Carolina, eventually coming away with a 33-23 win that cost them three spots.

25. BYU Cougars, 2-0: In the rankings for the first time thanks to a devastating win over Texas in Austin, 41-7, scoring over 40 on the Longhorns for the second straight year.

Dropped from rankings: Nebraska after beating McNeese State 31-24 (were #19 entering the week) and North Carolina, beating San Diego State 31-27 (were #21 entering week 2).
