NBA Summer League, Day 2 – Detroit Pistons Impressed With Stanley Johnson

The 2015 NBA Summer league continues with a second day that showed us and the Detroit Pistons even more of what Stanley Johnson can do, another solid performance from Frank Kaminsky on the Charlotte Hornets and Justise Winslow delivering a game-winning assist for the Miami Heat.

Johnson, the 8th overall pick and someone who could have been playing for Team USA in the U-19 World Basketball Championship had he not been drafted, scored 24 points and was the overall top performer of the day, leading the Pistons to as 77-69 win over the Los Angeles Clippers.

Johnson impressed with his postgame interview, saying that he’s talking with Stan Van Gundy every day and he’s happy to be challenged and having goals set for him, and that’s the only way for him to get better.

Kaminsky kept showing impressive range and ability to score from pretty much anywhere on the floor, finishing with 14 points on 6-of-8 from the field and 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. The Hornets lost 79-75 to the Memphis Grizzlies, but also got a good performance from Troy Daniels who is entering his third season in the league, scoring 21 points. Undrafted Aaron Harrison scored 16 points for the Hornets.

Winslow didn’t score more points than Johsnon or Kaminsky. He finished with 14 points, shooting poorly (3-of-10 from the field, 0-for-5 from beyond the arc). But he got to taste victory in an NBA structure for the first time in his career, dishing an Alley-Oop assist to Tyler Johnson with 0.4 seconds left on the clock, helping the Miami Heat beat the Brooklyn Nets 71-70. Rondae Hollis-Jefferson didn’t look too bad for the Nets with 8 points and 7 rebounds.
