I guess Diego Forlan likes extra times. After scoring the goal that axed Liverpool in the semi final deep in extra time a few weeks ago, Forlan did it again in Hamburg against another British club, Cinderella-esque Fulham.

Forlan opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, maybe from an offside position, but Fulham reacted quickly, as Bobby Zamora wrecked havoc in the Atletico defense, leading to Simon Davies’ fantastic volley finish. Fulham started the second half blitzing De Gea and Atletico, but from the moment Zamora left the pitch (55th minute, wasn’t 100% fit before the match), Fulham seemed to be waiting for the penalties.

Aguero, who was absentee all match, chased down a long ball in the 115th minute, creating the goal for Diego Forlan, handing Atletico their second European trophy (Cup Winners’ Cup in 1962) and first UEFA Europa League trophy, the first ever in the edition of the tournament. Roy Hodgson (second final loss, first with Inter in 1997) and Fulham left with the compliments after an amazing season, Atletico, Quique Sanchez Flores and especially Diego Forlan left with the deserved cup.
